Advantages of Being Certified by LABPCRT

Background

In 2000, the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc. (NBRC) completed the first International job analysis with the assistance of respiratory care professionals representing Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Venezuela. This landmark research, funded by the American Respiratory Care Foundation (ARCF) and Applied Measurement Professionals, Inc. (AMP), the NBRC’s subsidiary, benchmarks respiratory therapy practice in Latin America and serves as the basis for testing the knowledge respiratory therapists need at entry level of practice.

How It Started

The NBRC worked with these countries to develop a respiratory therapy examination representing the current state of practice in Latin American countries, rather than practice standards of the United States, making the examination an applicable measure of job performance in Latin America. The intended outcome of this partnership is to promote and establish a mechanism for evaluating and certifying the work competency of respiratory care professionals in the participating countries, thereby enabling the growth of respiratory therapy and enhancing the quality of patient care.
